It's a city with a lot of history, with Dutch, British and Portugese traders over the past five hundred years. In the picture below, notice in the right hand lower corner a display to welcome the year of the Rat, which somehow always ended up looking like Mickey Mouse. The red paper lanterns are also hung to welcome the lunar new year.
